Opinion: Conducting science in the public eye
Doing science is usually hidden behinds the wall of the lab and universities, and thus immune from immediate public scrutiny. The current COVID-19 pandemic has dragged the scientific process and its fruits in the public eye. In this short piece, I attempt to discuss the effect of conducting science in the public eye on the public’s perception of science and scientists.

متن کاملAssessing the utility of statistical adjustments for imperfect detection in tropical conservation science
1. In recent years, there has been a fast development of models that adjust for imperfect detection. These models have revolutionized the analysis of field data, and their use has repeatedly demonstrated the importance of sampling design and data quality. There are, however, several practical limitations associated with the use of detectability models which restrict their relevance to tropical ...
متن کاملBiodiversity conservation in tropical agroecosystems: a new conservation paradigm.
It is almost certainly the case that many populations have always existed as metapopulations, leading to the conclusion that local extinctions are common and normally balanced by migrations. This conclusion has major consequences for biodiversity conservation in fragmented tropical forests and the agricultural matrices in which they are embedded. Here we make the argument that the conservation ...

February, it turns out, is the peak month for heart attacks, but did you ever wonder why? If you subscribe to the notion that high cholesterol is the main or major risk factor for heart attacks, then you would be surprised to know that seasonal differences in choles...
